Classroom Videos

In this video, preschoolers play a whole-group mystery number game. Watch for how one child uses counting as a strategy when she is unsure of which numeral to choose.

In this video, preschoolers play a small-group matching game that connects quantities to written numerals. The teacher displays a numeral, and children examine their picture cards to determine the quantity shown. They then decide whether any of their cards match the numeral!

Playful Moments

In this video, preschoolers roll a ball down a table and into a cup labeled with a written numeral. The child identifies the numeral and counts aloud to that number. After counting, the teacher reinforces the connection by repeating the numerals’ name.

In this video, preschoolers play cornhole outside in the play yard. After throwing bean bags, the children must count their score and then write that numeral on their whiteboards. A number line is used as a tool to help children identify and write numerals.
