Our responsibility as early childhood professionals is to collaborate with families to support their child’s learning and share our knowledge and expertise. Creating a learning partnership requires thoughtful reflection and intentional planning. Consider the following ideas when sharing resources with families.

EVALUATE
Identify successes and challenges as you help families reflect on their daily routines. Look for what families are doing well and build on their strengths. Take note of family interests and needs.

PLAN
Respond to what you learned about the family and the child by finding or creating resources that meet their needs. When searching for appropriate resources begin with reputable early childhood organizations with the mission of sharing best practices.

CONNECT
Consider the best way to communicate with each family based on their preference. Explore the wide variety of options on social media, smartphone apps, and video conferencing. Don’t forget simple tools such as texting and email are often most effective.

FOLLOW-UP
Provide opportunities for families to share challenges and celebrate successes. Check-in frequently. Reflect on what you learn and plan your next steps.
